Autumn is the time for the hill climb season. It usually lasts a few short weeks around the time the the clocks change back to GMT. Bath CC, along with many other clubs, includes a hill climb in its series of club events.
I believe there was a national hill climb being held in the north of the country. However half a dozen elite riders eschewed riding that event and instead elected to enter the prestigious Bath CC hill climb. This event was held on the steep slopes of Hinton Hill out of Wellow and was organised by Bob Bolwell.
The surface is good now the road has been shored up to prevent it sliding down into the valley. A slight tailwind was little compensation for the persistent light rain that fell for most of the morning. Times were as follows:
| Rider | Time |
|---|---|
| Phil Marshall | 2m 47.6s |
| Neil Richardson | 2m 50.4s |
| David Summers | 3m 08.7s |
| Tim Culshaw | 3m 11.7s |
| Matt Stier | 3m 34.0s |
| Simon Warren | 4m 55.0s |
As usual -- it's almost a club tradition -- everyone retired to the cafe at Brokers Wood country park for post-race tea and cakes.
