Hilly 19 time trial 2008

The club evening ten mile time trial on 18th June was cold, wet and windy. The weather for the hilly 19, organised by Pete Wilson, was slightly different. It wasn't as cold, but was definitely windier and wetter.

The course was the usual UC541R circular course with the headquarters at Bratton Garden Centre. As noted previously there was a village fete in Steeple Ashton on Sunday 6th July. To avoid racing on potentially busy roads and through a busy village the start time was moved to 8:00AM and the finish was moved to the disused petrol station on the outskirts of Steeple Ashton. This shortened the course by roughly three miles as the start was kept to the layby some 50 yards from the Garden Centre. Moving the finish also saved the riders a three mile slog into wind-driven rain[1].

Four brave souls faced the timekeeper and the results were:

RiderTime
Rob Pears37m 32s
Mark Keyford38m 32s
Leon Boulton45m 38s
Pete Wilson51m 10s

The usual post-race postmortem was held over tea, coffee and cakes in the civilised surroundings of Bratton Garden Centre. The carrot cake was delicious.

The next club event is on Wednesday 16th July and is an evening ten mile time trial on the UC361R Frome bypass course.

[1] Shortening the course by roughly three miles? What an altruistic gesture by the event organiser and timekeepers! Sometimes I'm sure the riders do not fully appreciate the concern club officials have for their welfare and wellbeing :-)
