A sunny evening, but (as is common with Caslte Combe) a strong headwind on the 2nd alf of the circuit. Some good times where set, Ben Anstie is known for his speed, he and a rapidly improving Dave Ballantyne, set the time to beat for the Chippenham Wheelers. They came home in 43-42, just over 30s behind the course record.
Bath CCs Mark Keyford, rather than pairing up with Rob Pears as usual, instead went with hill climb expert James Dobin. Now Castle Combe circuit isn't known for its hills (there aren't any to speak of), but this didn't stop the Keyford Dobin duo comming home in second with 45-31.
Rob Pears, not being able to pair up with Mark, when for the next best option (questionable) in David Summers. This slowed Rob from his usual fast times, and first place, and so the duo only came home 4th place with 46-27. They were beaten to 3rd place by the BadTri duo of Russell and Mumford (who recorded 46-20). Pear and Summers though were the fastest all Bath team.
Other times came in, but no one else challeneged for the lead.
Ryan and Boutons pace seemed well suited to each other, and a good sub 50' time resulted.
J Waring and N Bromwich both started, and crossed the finish line, but miraculously no time seems to have been recorded for them. Quite what happened is still unclear (well OK, we think the lap counter missed them on their finish).
Mike Halgath, paired up with Aileen Brown, dropped out after a lap or two - the vibe just wasn't right on the night.
