Bath CC celebrates Autumn and them imminent arrival of darker evenings by holding it's annual club hill climb. As in previous years the event was held on Hinton Hill out of Wellow towards Hinton Charterhouse and organised by Bob Bolwell. Andy Curran rode down to the bottom of the hill to act as pusher-off.
Weather conditions were good for the time of year. A heavy shower just before dawn had cleared, leaving sunny spells with broken cloud. The road had dried by the time the event started and westerly wind gave a tailwind up the hill.
Entry was lower than previous years, despite the reasonable weather conditions. The competitive members of the club must have got lost on their way to the event. Thereby missing their last chance to shine before being sewn into their winter training clothes.
Despite the low entry it was a close battle. Times were:
| Rider | Time |
|---|---|
| Rob Pears | 2m 46.2s |
| Tom Marshall | 2m 50.2s |
| Mervyn Daymond | 3m 38.0s |
Rob Pears won by a few seconds from Tom Marshall. Tom has been doing well in open hill climbs this year. Mervyn Daymond, aged 14, put in a good ride and easily avoided being caught by the two following riders.
After the event everyone involved joined the club run at Brokers Wood country park for the traditional post-race tea, coffee and cakes.
