Last night the club held their second evening club ten mile time trial of the year. As in the first event of the year the course was the UC361R Frome bypass course.
This event was organised by Tony Thorne who also held up the riders at the start. Leon Boulton was on hand to encourage the riders and keep the timekeeper awake at the finish.
Iwein Dekoninick rode out to, and rode the event on a steel Eddy Merckx road machine. Although lightweight and fast, such machines are now substantially different to the specialist time trial machines in common use.
"It's been a cracking day, Grommit", said Wallace. Wallace would also have approved of the pristine old Morris Minor that Rob Pears drove to the start. Wallace was also right about the weather. It was a warm, dry summer evening without a cloud in the sky. The only fly in the ointment was the wind. An easterly wind had blown all day, didn't die down for the evening, and meant it was a hard slog on the finishing leg to the timekeeper.
Results:
| Rider | Time |
|---|---|
| Rob Pears | 21m 26s |
| Tom Ryan | 24m 18s |
| Mark Hastler | 25m 00s |
| Iwein Dekoninick | 25m 29s |
| Jon York | 27m 07s |
| Pete Abbot | 30m 29s |
Jon York is a member of the Frome and District Wheelers.
The easterly wind indicated that it would be a hard evening, and that's how it turned out. Times were a good minute slower that in the earlier event of the year. Apart from Rob Pears. A lot of hard work out on the course and a long, hard sprint for the line meant Rob recorded exactly the same time as in the first event of the year. "A cracking ride", as Wallace might say.
The next club event is a ten mile time trial on this course, next week at 7:00PM on Wednesday 23th June.
