Last night the club held their third evening club ten mile time trial on the UC361R Frome bypass course. This event was again organised by Tony Thorne who also held up the riders at the start.
Another dry, warm and sunny summer evening. The dying wind was from the West, rather than from the East as in previous events. So conditions were definitely a lot warmer with a slight tailwind finish.

Those of you lying on the sofa at home overcome with euphoria at a glorious England victory in some minor football competition missed another cracking day out. It was the fastest night we've seen on this course so far. Rob Pears clipped 12 seconds off his best time for this course. Mark Hastler went 16 seconds quicker than the previous week.
Iwein took nearly a minute and a half off last week's time. Obviously the better conditions helped, but this also indicates the value of using a specialised time trial machine rather than a standard road bike. We saw similar improvements in the club's open ten mile events, organised by Rob Pears, on the fast U47 course earlier this year. A couple of riders rode the "Old Skool" event on standard bikes and then rode the main event on a specialised machine. The times they recorded improved by a similar amount to, or better than, Iwein's improvement.
There's a delay of a few weeks before the next club event on this course. After all, we don't want our events to overshadow the start of the Tour de France. Entente Cordiale and all that jazz. The next club event is a ten mile time trial at 7:00PM on Wednesday 14th July.
