The club's final evening ten mile time trial of this year was held on Wednesday 30th July. Chris Atchison organised the event, pushed off the riders at the start, and kindly assisted a doddery old time keeper at the finish.
The evening was the best we've had this year. Dry, warm, sunny with just a light zephyr of a breeze to hamper the riders on the outward leg. The promise of the evening was reflected in a crop of fast times:
| Rider | Time |
|---|---|
| Mark Keyfor | 22m 07s |
| David Summers | 23m 08s |
| Andy Dutton | 24m 09s |
| Tom Ryan | 24m 18s |
| Leon Boulton | 25m 37s |
| Pete Wilson | 25m 37s |
| Stuart Dobson | 27m 12s |
| Aileen Brown | 27m 25s |
| Alan Pickard | 31m 39s |
The Frome & District Wheelers keep records of their events on this course for the past few years. Mark Keyford's time was only a couple of seconds off the fastest time I could find, a time of 22m 05s recorded by David Kidell on 23rd August 2007.
Stuart Dobson, introduced by Mark Keyford, was riding his first ever time trial. And even admitted to enjoying it!
Virtually all the other riders improved on their previous times in a club event on this course. David Summers, Andy Dutton, Leon Boulton, Pete Wilson and Aileen Brown all improved their times by at least half a minute. Tom Ryan and Alan Pickard might have gone quicker but for a 70 mile ride with the Tuesday group the previous day.
The next club event is the 2-up team time trial on Tuesday 12th August. That's 11 laps of the Castle Combe course. So gather your partners for a few fast twirls round the circuit.
